DISCLAIMER

The procedures, rules, and regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events.  These rules shall govern all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM THE PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE PROCEDURES, RULES, AND REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

The Race Chairman is empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his or her opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS.  Any interpretation of these rules is left up to the discretion of Race Officials.  Their decision is final.

PROCEDURES FOR DRAG RACING

1.     ENTRY GATE:  Pay your entry fee, receive a technical inspection card and other information, and sign the insurance "Release of Liability" waiver form.  Entry fees paid allow entry for one vehicle and one driver.  You will receive one wrist bracelet with each car entry; all persons must wear a wrist bracelet at all times during the race.  If you have pit crew personnel, additional wrist bracelets may be purchased at the spectator price.

2.     TECHNICAL INSPECTION:  The Technical Inspection Station is located in the pits and is identified by a "Tech Here" sign.  Please PRINT all requested information (name, address, vehicle information, sponsors, etc.) on the technical inspection card, and take vehicle and card to Tech Station.  EVERY vehicle must be inspected and passed, and must have its number on the vehicle (in 5" or taller numbers), before it will be allowed to make a pass.  The Tech Station closes at 1:00PM.

3.      PIT AREA:  The pit area will be marked.

4.      STAGING LANES:  There are four staging lanes for time trails at most races (more for Golden Days).  Staging lanes for eliminations are assigned by class and will be announced.  When the vehicle in front of you is called into the water box, make sure your helmet and seatbelt are properly fastened and all your windows are rolled up.

5.      WATER BOX:  Vehicles will be guided into the water by Staging Personnel.

6.      PRE-STAGING:  There are two sets of yellow lights at the top of the "Porta-A-Tree".  After your burnout, move to the starting line, making sure your vehicle is centered on the launch pad.  Move forward just until the "Pre-Stage" (top) light is lit on your side.  DO NOT move into the "Stage" (bottom) light until the vehicle in the other lane lights his or her "Pre-Stage" light.

7.     STAGING:  Once BOTH vehicles have pre-staged, move your vehicle forward until the "Stage" (bottom) light is lit.  You will be given the opportunity to bring your engine speed up after BOTH vehicles have Staged.  It is now time to race.

8.      STARTING:  Once both vehicles are ready to race, the Starter will activate the computer and starting lights.  For bracket racing, all racers will see the three yellow lights come on one-at-a-time, with 0.5 seconds between each yellow or green light.  NOTE:  Try leaving when you see the last yellow light come on.  This will help your reaction time.  When you receive your time slip, you can adjust your starting procedure based on your reaction time.  A "perfect" reaction time is 0.500 seconds.  If you leave before the last yellow light comes on, you've left before the clock could start and will not get any information for that pass.

9.     RACING:  Launch your vehicle from the starting line in a straight line and race to the finish line.  If your vehicle has a problem that won't allow it to get to the end of the track, coast through the finish lights, if possible, and then pull to the outside of your lane.  DO NOT DRIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RACE TRACK IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS A PROBLEM!  If you have a problem, a member of your crew or a Race Official will assist you in removing your vehicle from the track.  If no problems exist, always clear the racetrack before stopping.

10.    FINISH LINE:  Drive past the finish line and brake to slow down so you can turn off of the track (as shown on the map.  IF YOU ARE IN THE LEFT LANE, DO NOT TURN RIGHT ONTO THE TURN OFF UNTIL AFTER YOUR OPPONENT HAS DONE SO.  THE DRIVER IN THE RIGHT LANE ALWAYS HAS THE RIGHT-OF-WAY.  Make sure you are off of the main track and shutdown area, as we cannot continue until the racing surface is clear of all vehicles.

11.     RETURN ROAD:  NO burnouts, launches or stopping is allowed.   Speed limit is 25 MPH on the return road and 5 MPH in the Pit Area.

12.    TIME SLIP:  Pick up your time slip at the time slip printer by the white trailer closest to the timing bus.  This slip is a computer print-out of race number, reaction time, 60-foot time, quarter-mile time, and ending speed.  Information for both you and your competitor will be on the same form, and the winner will be indicated.

13.    PIT AREA:  Speed limit is 5 MPH.  During time trials, you may enter the staging lanes at any time.  During eliminations, return to your pit area and wait for the announcer to call you back to the staging lanes for your next run down the track.  KEEP THIS AREA CLEAN.  Containers are provided for waste oil and anti-freeze.  Floor dry is available at the timing bus in case of oil spills.

14.      SPORTSMANSHIP:  Your cooperation provides a winning atmosphere.  Be alert, be patient, be safe, and most of all, BE A GOOD SPORTSMAN.

15.       CLEAN-UP:  When you leave, please pick up all trash, including cigarette butts, from your pit site.  Floor dry should be used as soon as possible on any oil or coolant spills.  This will help ensure our ability to continue using this track  in the future.  Please don't throw any trash in the porta-potties.

16.       USED OIL:  Each racer is responsible for the legal disposal of his or her own used oil.  If you need assistance, contact a race official.  (The Fairbanks North Star Borough Landfill will accept up to five gallons of used oil at no charge.)

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.       GENERAL RULES:  We follow the rules and guidelines set by the IHRA in the current IHRA Rulebook.  A full copy of the rulebook is at the Tech Station.

2.       RESTRICTED AREAS:  NO ONE EXCEPT RACE OFFICIALS ARE ALLOWED IN THE TIMING BUS.  If you have a problem or need help, please locate one of the Race Officials.

3.        NO REFUNDS:  All vehicles should be race-ready upon entering the track.  Entry fees will NOT be refunded to operators of vehicles unable to participate in time trials or eliminations.

4.       ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AND DRUGS PROHIBITED:  This applies to all racers, crew, and spectators.  Any offenders risk loss of racing and/or admission privileges.

5.        RE-RUNS:  The only re-runs allowed will be due to errors in dial-ins made by computer operators, receiving wrong lights, computer malfunction, or hazardous track conditions as determined by Race Officials.

6.        DIAL-INS:  This must be on the left (tower) side of each race vehicle, including motorcycles (if there is no room on a motorcycle for a dial-in, make sure you give your dial-in to the timing bus prior to eliminations and when changing dial-in).  It is the responsibility of the racer to put the dial-in number on the vehicle (in numbers at least 5" tall).  Dial-ins may be changed between each run, except that a first round bye chosen by low E.T. must use that same E.T. for the second round.  If you change your dial-in, make sure the number is changed on your window, as this is your "official" dial-in.

7.        NO BACKING:  Once BOTH vehicles are staged, no backing out of the lights will be permitted.  Disqualification will result from backing out of the lights.  Only under extraordinary circumstances will an appeal be heard after backing out of the lights.

8.       BURNOUTS:  Those drivers desiring a water burnout must drive through the water.  Crews will NOT hold the vehicle during burnouts.  Super Pro vehicles will be allowed ONE across-the starting-line burnout, and will have approximately two (2) minutes to pre-stage after completing the burnout.  All other classes will NOT be allowed across-the-starting-line burnouts, and will have approximately thirty (30) seconds to pre-stage after the burnout.

9.        NO RETURN ROAD BURNOUTS:  Racers doing burnouts or launches, or speeding, on the return road, or in the pit area or staging lanes, may be disqualified.

10.      SPEED LIMITS:  Shall be enforced as follows:  RETURN ROAD 25 MPH, PIT AREA and STAGING LANES 5 MPH.  Violators will get one warning; second occurrence will mean disqualification.

11.    DRIVERS LICENSE:  All racers must have a valid drivers license.

12.     HELMETS:  All racers are required to wear a SNELL 80 specification or better helmet.  Eye protection is required for ALL open vehicles and motorcycles.  MOTORCYCLES:  Racers running 9.99 seconds or quicker must wear a SNELL 85M helmet.

13.     PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:  Vehicles running 9.90 seconds or quicker require a jacket and long pants meeting SFI Spec 3.2A-5.  Vehicles running 9.91 to 10.90 seconds require a jacket and long pants meeting SFI Spec 3-2A-1.  Drivers of front engine open-bodied vehicles MUST wear protective clothing and fire retardant gloves.  Vehicles using fuel other than gasoline (such as alcohol or nitro methane) must meet clothing requirements per current IHRA rules.  All other drivers MUST wear long pants and long-sleeved shirt or jacket, preferably NOT nylon.  No cutoffs, short-sleeve shirts, tank-tops, or tee-shirts will be allowed while driving.  MOTORCYCLES and SNOWMACHINES:  Racers MUST wear gloves, leather or KEVLAR jacket, and boots or shoes above the ankles.  Any motorcycle with an E.T. of 10.99 or quicker MUST also wear leather or KEVLAR pants.

14.      JACKS AND JACK STANDS:  NO work will be done under any vehicle unless supported by jack stands.  NO engine may be run unless an operator is in the driver's seat.  NO work will be done in the shutdown area or on the return road; broken vehicles must be towed back to the pit area.  FAILURE TO OBSERVE THIS RULE WILL BE GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION.

15.      NO RIDING:  No riding on fenders, hoods, etc., of vehicles in pit area or staging lanes.  Only ONE person is allowed in a vehicle during its participation in eliminations, unless authorized by Race Officials.  Riders are allowed in 14 second or slower cars only, and only during time trials.  FAILURE TO OBSERVE THIS RULE WILL BE GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION.

16.      TOW VEHICLE:  Crew members must be inside the vehicle or completely inside truck bed, and are not to be seated on tailgate, standing on running boards, or otherwise not completely inside the vehicle.

17.        STAGING LANE ATTENDANCE:  Unattended vehicles in staging lanes are subject to being passed by other racers or being disqualified from that day's event.

18.      CREW CONTROL:  No persons are allowed on the starting line other than working crewmembers that are assisting in backing, etc.  Absolutely no spectators are allowed in the starting line area or disturbing the Starter.  No one will be allowed to stand BEHIND a vehicle in the burnout area AT ANY TIME.

19.      PIT BIKES AND 3- AND 4-WHEELERS:  Pit bikes and 4-wheelers are allowed in the pit area and as tow vehicles.  3-wheelers are not allowed anywhere on the premises.

20.      BYE RUNS:  Bye-runs will only be given when an odd number of racers for a specific class actually "show".  First round bye goes to the fastest E.T. in the class (draw for bye if two cars have same low E.T.).  Subsequent round byes will be chosen by a draw (only one bye-run per class per racer; if same racer is drawn more than once, another draw will be made).  The racer that draws the bye-run will stage last in his or her class.  A vehicle that is started and brought to the water box is considered a "show"; if it fails on the starting line, the other racer will have a "bye-run", even if there is already another bye-run for that class.

21.      LANE CHOICE:  Lane choice will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis, unless mutually agreed otherwise by both drivers.

22.        BREAKOUTS:  Will be determined by Port-A-Tree computer timing system.  This system determines the winner with accuracy to one ten-thousandth of a second.

23.          PAY OUTS AND PRIZES:  These will be handed out at the timing bus after the completion of each day's racing and clean-up.  (NOTE:  the more people who help pick-up and clean-up, the sooner we have the awards ceremony.)
